Yamraaj has a new means of Transportation :-
This morning, like every morning, I stopped an auto rickshaw and asked if he will go to Goregaon. From Green Fields to Hub Mall, Goregaon it takes about Rs 30. When I reached my destination, the meter was reading Rs 37. There was no traffic on the roads today unlike everyday and still the fare is much more than usual. At first I thought to let it go. Then Suddenly I said to myself ‘No’. I wrote the number of the auto-rickshaw having in mind to complain about it to the RTO later. I was in these thoughts only and the next moment I could see a traffic police nearby. I told him I travel daily and this distance takes Rs 30 usually. These traffic policemen in uniform just need a reason. They asked the auto-driver for papers and just took his license and told me we’ll tackle him. You can leave. I understood what is going to happen next. This traffic police will harrass the auto-driver and finally would leave him only if he hands him over a hundred Rupee note.
I told the auto-driver see, this is bombay. If you take Rs 7 more from me someone else will take Rs 100 from you. The auto-driver was not used to these situations maybe. He told me he is new to this business. This is not even my auto and it’s my first day on job- He told me. I don’t know if the owner of auto has done some tweaks in the meter resulting in the high fare than usual. He requested me to help him and get his license back. I thought for a second and went to the traffic policeman. I told him I have noted the number and have lodged a complaint by sending SMS. Now, the RTO department will see what needs to be done. I asked the policeman to give back the license to the driver. The traffic cop was losing an opportunity to make some money. He told me why are you bothering? Why don’t you go to work. We will tackle this. I told the traffic police firmly, listen I know why are you asking me to leave. This auto-driver’s paper work is ok. license is ok. Then you do not have any reason to hold his license when I have already filed the complaint using SMS. The cop didn’t want to lose the chance to make some bucks. He insisted that I had lodged a complaint and now he will make this auto-driver pay fine of Rs 600.
People started gathering around. I told strictly- Listen, I know what traffic police does in such cases, ok. I know you will ask him to pay fine of Rs 600 and settle it for Rs 100 without a receipt. Nothing new about it. But, I would not let it happen. I have already filed a complaint. But, not to you, to the RTO directly. You can’t claim a fine when this guy’s papers are ok. I told them, lemme do one thing, let me record this entire discussion and send this to a TV channel. Another policeman joined the scene by then. I asked him- are you his boss? I do not want to speak to him. I want to talk to his boss. He was nearby only. Me, the auto-driver and the traffic cop went to him and they started takling in Marathi. I interrupted and asked to talk in Hindi so that I could also understand. After they had talked about, I told the senior policeman that this auto-driver’s papers are all ok and I have already filed a complaint againt this auto number at RTO. So, this policeman doesn’t have any rights to make him pay a fine. There is no need to do anything more. The senior policeman understood the situation. He asked the junior one to give back his license. He followed the instructions.

मुंबई— सुधार समितीत गैरहजर असलेल्या कोणत्याही सदस्याला कोणताही प्रस्ताव पुन्हा पटलावर ठेवून चर्चा करण्याचा अधिकार असताना भाजपने मात्र सदस्यांच्या या नैसर्गिक हक्काची पायमल्ली केली. शिवसेनेने मेट्रोचा प्रस्ताव पुन्हा पटलावर ठेवून चर्चा करण्याची मागणी केलेली असताना भाजपने सुधार समितीत ही मागणी फेटाळून लावून समितीचेच नियम धाब्यावर बसविल्याने संतप्त झालेल्या शिवसेना सदस्यांनी भाजपच्या नियमबाह्य काम करण्याच्या प्रवृत्तीचा निषेध नोंदवत सभात्याग केला. मेट्रो प्रकल्पाच्या कामात गिरगावमधील मराठी माणूस बेघर होणार आहे. या मराठी माणसाला त्याच परिसरात घर देण्याची शिवसेनेने जोरदार मागणी लावून धरली आहे. तसेच हुतात्मा चौकालाही या प्रकल्पाच्या कामामुळे धक्का पोहचणार असल्याने हुतात्मा चौकाच्या परिसरात हा प्रकल्प राबवू नये अशी मागणी शिवसेनेने या आधीच केली आहे. शिवसेनेचा विरोध असतानाही सुधार समितीत हा प्रस्ताव मंजूर करण्यात आला होता. समितीच्या नियमानुसार एखाद्या प्रस्तावावर चर्चा करायची असेल आणि तो प्रस्ताव पुन्हा पटलावर ठेवायचा असेल तर त्या दिवशी गैरहजर असलेल्या सदस्याने समिती अध्यक्षांना तसे पत्र देऊन तो प्रस्ताव पुन्हा पटलावर ठेवण्याची मागणी करायची असते. त्यानुसार मेट्रोचा प्रस्ताव मंजूर झाला त्या दिवशी सुधार समितीत गैरहजर असलेल्या सुधार समिती सदस्या शुभा राऊळ यांनी मेट्रोचा प्रस्ताव पटलावर ठेवायची मागणी केली. तसे पत्रही त्यांनी सुधार समिती अध्यक्ष प्रकाश गंगाधरे यांना दिले होते. भाजपचे नगरसेवक आणि सुधार समितीचे अध्यक्ष असलेल्या गंगाधरे यांनी हे पत्र फेटाळून लावून मेट्रोच्या प्रस्तावावर चर्चा करण्यास नकार दिला. त्यामुळे शिवसेना नगरसेवकांनी भाजपच्या या अरेरावीविरोधात आज सभात्याग केला. शुभा राऊळ, श्रद्धा जाधव आणि राजू पेडणेकर यांच्यासह सर्व शिवसेना नगरसेवकांनी भाजपचा हा निर्णय नियमबाह्य असून समितीचे कामकाज नियमबाह्य होत असल्याचा आरोप केला.

The Haji Ali Dargah Trust, which manages the five-century-old Haji Ali shrine in the Arabian Sea off Worli, will complete 100 years on Saturday (February 20) and a host of celebrations are planned to commemorate the centenary, an trust official said. The chief minister will be laying the foundation stone for the restoration and refurbishment of the Dargah premises, while a Sufi qawwali programme by the world-renowned qawwali singers, Fanna-Fi Allah from California and other events are planned, said trustee Suhail Khandwani. The Fanna-Fi Allah party is currently on a three week long tour of India and has lined up qawwali concerts in New Delhi, Bhopal, three concerts in Mumbai, one at the Guru Ravidas Jayanti in Jalandhar, at the World Sufi Spirit Festival in Jodhpur and rounding off with a show in Srinagar on February 28. Revered by followers of all religions, the Haji Ali Dargah is ranked among the top and most photographed tourist landmarks of Mumbai, resting on rocks around 500 yards from the Mumbai seashore off Worli. It is approachable only during low tides from a narrow windy stony lane connecting it to the shore. The original structure was erected on high rising rocks and attained its present shape in the early 19th century after the Haji Ali Dargah Trust was formed on February 20, 1916, Khandwani said. Housing the tomb of Muslim saint, the Iranian-born Pir Haji Ali Shah Bikhari, and a mosque, it is extremely popular with locals, domestic and foreign tourists round the year. The tomb has white domes and minarets, typical of the Mughal architecture of that era and attracts around 20,000 devotees and tourists of all religions daily, with the figures jumping to nearly double on Thursdays, Friday and Sundays. During major Muslim festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, millions swoop to pray at the tomb and the pathway, dargah complex and the main promenade see a sea of humanity. The saint had never married, has no descendents and the dargah passed down five centuries through generations of the caretakers and trustees here. There are claims of many miracles that happened before and after the saint's death. According to a legend, he was once busy in prayers at a lonely place in his hometown when a woman passed from there crying and screaming. When he enquired, she showed an empty vessel in her hand and said she had dropped oil from it and would suffer a beating from her husband if she returned home. The Pir calmed her down and went to the place where the oil was dropped, took the vessel from her and pushed the earth with his thumb. The oil gushed from there like a fountain, and the woman filled the vessel and went away happily. However, later, the saint was tormented by dreams of having "wounded" the earth and became full of remorse and grief. He later travelled to India with his brother, and reached the then small island of Worli, some place near the present day tomb. His brother returned to his hometown, along with a letter from the saint to his mother that he was in good health, and he had decided to live there (Worli) permanently for propagating Islam. He continued to impart knowledge of Islam to people and the devotees and years later he instructed his followed not to bury him but drop his body in the ocean in such a manner that it would be buried by the people wherever it was found. They obeyed his wish and later, the body was found at the rocks off Worli, the same site where it came to rest, perching itself on a small mound of stones jutting out of the Arabian Sea.
