Aamir Khan Biography


Aamir Khan (born: Aamir Hussain Khan) is an Indian film actor, director, and producer who has established himself as one of the leading actors of Hindi cinema. Starting his career as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), Khan began his professional career eleven years later with Holi (1984) and had his first commercial success with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). He received his first National Film Award as a Special Jury Award for his roles in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Raakh (1989). After eight previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, Khan received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in the major grosser Raja Hindustani (1996) and later earned his second Best Actor award for his performance in the Academy Award-nominated Lagaan, which also marked the debut of his own production company.
Following a four-year break from acting, Khan made his comeback playing the title role in the historical drama Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), and later won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role in Rang De Basanti (2006). The following year, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Director. This was followed by the thriller Ghajini (2008), which became the highest grossing film of that year, and the comedy 3 Idiots (2009), which became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all-time. On 30 November 2011, Khan was appointed as national brand ambassador of UNICEF to promote child nutrition. He is part of the government organised IEC campaign to raise awareness about malnutrition. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010 for his contributions towards the arts. In April 2013, he was among TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World List.

Salman Khan Biography


Salman Khan born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on 27 December 1965 is an Indian film actor, producer, television presenter, and philanthropist. The son of actor and screenwriter Salim Khan, Khan began his acting career with Biwi Ho To Aisi but it was his second film Maine Pyar Kiya in which he acted in a lead role that garnered him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Khan has starred in several commercially successful films, such as Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Biwi No.1 (1999), and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), having appeared in the highest grossing film nine separate years during his career, a record that remains unbroken.
In 1999, Khan won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his extended guest appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). In 2011, he won the Screen Award for Best Actor for his performance in Dabangg and in 2013, he won the Best Actor Popular Choice for his performances in Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Eight of the films he has acted in, have accumulated gross earnings of over INR1 billion (US$15 million) worldwide. He played leading roles in five consecutive blockbusters namely Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, and Dabangg 2. He has starred in more than 80 Hindi films and thus far has established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema.

Shahrukh Khan (SRK) Biography


Shahrukh Khan (born 2 November 1965), often credited as Shah Rukh Khan and informally referred as SRK, is an Indian film actor. Referred to in the media as "Badshah of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has acted in 75 Hindi films in genres ranging from romantic dramas to action thrillers. His contributions to the film industry have garnered him numerous achievements, including fourteen Filmfare Awards from thirty nominations. His eighth Filmfare Best Actor Award win made him the most awarded Bollywood actor of all time in that category, tied only with actor Dilip Kumar. In 2005, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics, he started his career appearing in theatre and several television serials in the late 1980s and later made his Hindi film debut in 1992 with Deewana. Early in his career, Khan was recognised for his unconventional choice of portraying negative roles in films such as Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993), and Anjaam (1994). He later rose to prominence by playing a series of romantic roles in the films Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995).,Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). The commercial success of these films earned him the tag of "the King of Romance". Khan then subsequently earned wide critical appreciation for his portrayal of a NASA scientist in Swades (2004), a hockey coach in Chak De! India (2007), and as the titular characters in Devdas (2002) and My Name Is Khan (2010).Twelve of the films he has acted in, have accumulated gross earnings of over INR100 crore (US$15 million) worldwide, making him one of the most successful leading actors of Hindi cinema.
Khan occupies the position of co-chairman of the motion picture production and distribution company, Red Chillies Entertainment and the animation studio, Red Chillies VFX. He is also co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. The year 2007 marked his debut as a television presenter with the Star Plus gaming show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Khan is often labelled by the media as "Brand SRK" due to his various brand endorsement and entrepreneurship ventures. He has also been involved in philanthropic endeavors related to Health care, relief funds and children's education, for which he was honoured with the UNESCO's Pyramide con Marni award in 2011.Khan is considered to be one of the biggest film stars in cinematic history, with a fan following claimed to number in the billions; in 2011, the Los Angeles Times called him "the world's biggest movie star." He has also been regularly featured in the listing of the most powerful names in Indian Cinema and in 2008, Newsweek named him one of the 50 most powerful people in the world.

Mawra Hocane


Mawra Hussain was born in Karachi but she grew up in Islamabad where her family was moved and where she completed her pre-medical education from Bahria College. She is currently studying LL.B. at the University College of Islamabad. She is the sister of television actress Urwa Hocane. Mawra changed the spelling of her family name from "Hussain" to "Hocane" in 7th-grade class to give it a unique spelling.The elder sister Urwa also followed and both have same spelling of their surname in the show business while their legal family name is "Hussain". She performed as a theater artist before working as a VJ at ARY Musik. Mawra gained popularity through performing in Pakistani television serial dramas like Aahista Aahista, Ik Tamanna Lahasil Si and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Sare. She will make her Bollywood debut in the upcoming romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam. Mawra has signed two other Bollywoodfilms as well.

मुंबई Mumbai


मुंबई ही भारतातल्या महाराष्ट्र राज्याची राजधानी असून भारतातील सर्वांत जास्त लोकसंख्या असलेले शहर आहे. मुंबईची लोकसंख्या सुमारे ३ कोटी २९ लाख आहे. हे शहर महाराष्ट्राच्या पश्चिम किनाऱ्यावर वसले आहे. मुंबई हे भारतातील सर्वांत श्रीमंत शहर असून दक्षिण, पश्चिम आणि मध्य आशियातील सर्वांत जास्त वार्षिक सकल उत्पन्न असलेले शहर आहे. आपल्या उपनगरांसह मुंबई जगातील ५वे सर्वांत मोठे शहर आहे. मुंबई शहराला नैसर्गिक बंदर लाभले असून या बंदरातून सागरी मार्गाने होणारी भारताची ५०% मालवाहतूक होते. मुंबई १८व्या शतकाच्या मध्यकाळात ब्रिटिशांद्वारे सात बेटांना जोडून बनविण्यात आली. १९व्या शतकात आर्थिक व शैक्षणिक प्रगती झाली आणि २०व्या शतकामध्ये स्वतंत्रता चळवळीचा पाया मुंबईतच मजबूत झाला. इ.स. १९४७ मध्ये भारताला स्वातंत्र्य मिळताना मुंबई शहर हे ब्रिटिशांनी बनविलेल्या मुंबई इलाख्यातच राहिले. इ.स. १९६० साली संयुक्त महाराष्ट्र चळवळीनंतर महाराष्ट्र राज्याची स्थापना करण्यात आली व मुंबई या नवीन राज्याचीही राजधानी बनली. १९९५ मध्ये शिवसेनेची सत्ता असताना या शहराचे नाव अधिकृतपणे बॉम्बे पासून मुंबई करण्यात आलं. मुंबई ही भारताची आर्थिक व मनोरंजनाची राजधानी आहे. रिझर्व बँक, मुंबई शेअर बाजार, राष्ट्रीय शेअर बाजार या महत्त्वाच्या आर्थिक संस्था या शहरात आहेत. मुंबईत अनेक कंपन्यांची मुख्य कार्यालये आहेत. येथे व्यवसाय व नोकरीच्या अनेक संधी उपलब्ध असल्याने देशाच्या इतर भागातून मोठ्या प्रमाणात लोक मुंबईत येतात. मुंबई हे बॉलीवूड व मराठी उद्योगाचे केंद्र आहे. संजय गांधी राष्ट्रीय उद्यान हे मुंबईच्या हद्दीतच आहे व असा योग खूप कमी शहराच्या बाबतीत आहे. 

मुंबईचे नाव मुंबादेवी या देवीवरून पडले आहे, असा समज आहे. पोर्तुगीजांनी बोम बाहीया व इंग्रजांनी बाँबे असे नामकरण केले होते. १९९५ मध्ये या शहराचे नाव पुन्हा मुंबई करण्यात आले. आजची मुंबई हा सात बेटांचा समूह होता. या बेटांवर पाषाणयुगापासून वस्ती असल्याचे पुरावे आहेत. याचा सर्वांत जुना लिखित पुरावा इ.स.पू. २५० सालातील असून यात मुंबई शहराचा उल्लेख ग्रीकांनी (Heptanesia असा) नोंदवला आहे. इ.स.पू. ३ च्या सुमारास ही बेटे सम्राट अशोकाच्या मौर्य साम्राज्यात समाविष्ट होती. शिलाहार या हिंदू साम्राज्याने १३४३ पर्यंत मुंबईवर राज्य केले व नंतर गुजरातच्या मुस्लिम साम्राज्याने मुंबई हस्तगत केली. एलिफंटा गुहा  वाळकेश्वर मंदिर ही याच काळातील आहेत. १५३४साली पोर्तुगीजांनी बहादूरशहाकडून मुंबई काबीज केली व तीस बॉम बाहीया असे नाव दिले. १६६१ रोजी पोर्तुगीजांनी मुंबई इंग्लंडचाराजा-दुसरा चार्ल्स याच्या कॅथेरीन दे ब्रगांझा या पोर्तुगीज राजकन्येशी झालेल्या लग्नात हुंडा म्हणून देऊन टाकली व नंतर मुंबई ब्रिटिश राजघराण्याकडून ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनीस भाड्याने देण्यात आली. कंपनीस मुंबई ही उपखंडात पहिले बंदर स्थापन करण्यास योग्य वाटली. मुंबईची लोकसंख्या वाढत राहिली (१६६१: १०,०० ते १६८७: ६०,०००). १६८७ रोजी ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनीने आपले कार्यालय सुरतेहून मुंबईत हलविले. कालांतराने हे शहर मुंबई इलाख्याची (Bombay Province) राजधानी झाली.

१८१७ ते १८४५ पर्यंत हॉर्नबी व्हेलार्ड (Hornby Vellard)च्या (आताच्या सागर किनाऱ्याने जाणाऱ्या हाजी अली रोडच्या) आतल्या भागात येणारी बेटे जोडून जमीन सलग करण्याचे काम मुंबईत सुरू होते. याचा परिणाम म्हणून मुंबईचे क्षेत्रफळ वाढले व ४३८ चौरस कि.मी. झाले. १८५३ रोजी आशियातीलपहिला लोहमार्ग मुंबईपासून सुरू झाला. अमेरिकन यादवी युद्धाच्या काळात मुंबई ही जगातील प्रमुख कापूस बाजारपेठ म्हणून उदयास आली व शहराची भरभराट सुरूच राहिली. सुएझ कालव्याच्या निर्मितीनंतर मुंबई हे अरबी समुद्रातील प्रमुख बंदर झाले. पुढील ३० वर्षात मुंबई शहराची भरभराट झाली. १९०६च्या सुमारास शहराच्या लोकसंख्येची वाढ होऊन ती १० लाखांपर्यंत पोहोचली व मुंबई शहर हे कोलकात्याखालोखाल दुसरे मोठे शहर बनले.भारतीय स्वातंत्र्ययुद्धाचे मुंबई हे प्रमुख केंद्र होते. महात्मा गांधीनी १९४२ मध्ये भारत छोडो आंदोलन मुंबई येथून सुरू केले. भारताच्या स्वातंत्र्यानंतर मुंबई हीच बॉम्बे इलाख्याची राजधानी राहिली. १९५० साली मुंबई शहरच्या सीमा उत्तरेकडील साष्टी बेटापर्यंत वाढविण्यात आल्या.

१९५५ नंतर बॉम्बे इलाख्याची फाळणी करून महाराष्ट्र व गुजरात राज्यांची निर्मिती व्हावी अशी मागणी होत होती. परंतु काहींच्या मते मुंबईला केंद्रशासित करावी असे होते. संयुक्त महाराष्ट्र चळवळीने यास प्रखर विरोध केला व मुंबईला महाराष्ट्र राज्याची राजधानी करण्याची मागणी केली. १०५ हुतात्म्यांच्या आहुतीनंतर मे १, १९६० रोजी महाराष्ट्र राज्याची निर्मिती होऊन त्याची राजधानी मुंबईच राहिली. १९७०च्या शेवटी मुंबईने बांधकाम व्यवसायाची भरभराट तसेच परप्रांतीयांचे लोंढे अनुभवले. याच काळात मुंबई कोलकात्याला मागे टाकून भारतातील सर्वांत जास्त लोकसंख्या असलेले शहर बनले. परप्रांतीयांच्या वाढत्या लोंढ्यामुळे मराठी लोकांमध्ये असंतोष वाढला. याचा परिणाम म्हणून स्थानिक लोकांच्या हितरक्षणासाठी शिवसेना नावाची राजकीय संघटना उदयास आली. बाळासाहेब ठाकरे यांच्या नेतृत्वाला भरघोस पाठिंबा मिळाला. मराठी अस्मितेच्या रक्षणार्थ मुंबईची बंबई (हिंदी भाषा) व बॉम्बे(इंग्लिश भाषा) ही नावे बदलून केवळ मुंबई हेच मराठी नाव अधिकृत करण्यात आले. यानंतर मुंबई विमानतळास व मुंबईच्या मध्य रेल्वेतील प्रमुख स्थानकास छत्रपती शिवाजींचे नाव देण्यात आले.

She is the author of numerous substantial books including the popular classic, A History of India, and is currently Professor Emerita atJawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi.
